VOLUNTEERISM: The policy or practice of volunteering one's time or talents for charitable, educational, or other worthwhile activities, expecially in one's community |
We are humbled by being associated with those members of the community who participate in our volunteer groups. These are organizations which are affiliated with the Office of Emergency Management and will certainly take time away from their families and personal hobbies. These selfless individuals and their families who put the safety and welfare of the community ahead of themselves get no compensation other than the occasional "Thank You", deserve the utmost respect from this agency as well as the rest of the community in which they serve. We are forever grateful for the service they give to their fellow man. Well Done teams, Well Done!!!
During times of emergency and disaster, many people within our community and the surrounding areas as well, get the bug to volunteer and help those who have been impacted. These folks are known as "unaffiliated volunteers" and we will always have them for every event. This is good as there will always be a place that they can contribute. Our office would like to urge anyone who knows that in the event of an emergency or disaster, they plan to be one of those volunteers, to contact us. Any person whom we can identify and affiliate with an appropriate organization before an event will help that organization be better prepared and useful. Please contact us at 270-586-1800 to find out more about how you can volunteer. |
